J.U.I.C.E

JUICE. It stands for Just Under Inside Clearly Experience. That, of course, stands for nothing. Ever since going through my quarterlife crisis I've started, amongst dozens and dozens of other little things, looking back at the toys of my youth. For me the toys weren't just "smash toys" like so many kids. I'm sure I did a bit of that but for me there was more. A creative outlet in my youth. There were stories to be lived through my toys. Whole worlds to be created, histories to be formed, and lives to be experienced. Appropriately this made me an odd kid. I was an introvert. I am still an introvert. These toys played off that retreat to my inner sanctum. They were my outlet and my easal (sp?).

Last year I started going ballsout crazy. With an influx of money like only the Kaiser had ever seen and a nagging feeling of... well something negative I needed a comfort zone in which to retreat. This came through LEGOs! I bought one set. That spiraled into a couple sets, which grew into an entire line. Ah consumerism, isn't it a beautiful thing? I bought a LEGO castle for three reasons: it was a good buy at half off, it had tons of cool figures and parts, and finally I had always wanted one in my childhood and never got one. I started looking at old sets to buy online and interesting newer sets, but my excitement had waned enough that I stopped pursuing LEGO. I admit that I'll still like it and pick up sets probably for as long as I live, but it won't get like it was last year.

I started looking at other toys I had when I was younger. I found websites for G.I. Joe figures, TMNT figures, Ghostbusters figures and such. It's ridiculously easy to research anything these days. Everything has a wiki or fansite. I found a website that had listings of every G.I. Joe. Every single figure I had owned was catalogued at the site. I jumped back to 1992-93 and was able to find all of my favorites. In my LEGO fury last year I found numerous amazing websites that both catalogued not only every set, but every brick. What a nostalgiac feeling it is to find the pictures of toys you've long ago lost.

I've overcome my need to seek out any of these old toys now. I'm going to keep looking to the future. I'm not the most mature person, I'm not the farthest along in life. A small amount of nostalgia was fun. A good feeling. I don't need that sort of thing any more. My focus has shifted back to my current hobbies and life.

Like Helen Wade Keller. My deaf cat. He's almost as annoying your average white trash American. Not in the same way, of course. I mean, he is white. But he's not trash. He does get into the trash. And finding a job. Not for the cat. He can't afford to get a job with his current schedule. It's loaded. But for me, or even Silas. He's laaaaazy. Lazier than Smudge.

My Family Can't Live in Good Intentions, Marge

Alright. So here's the jiggy. I'm not doing so well on this whole "bu-logg" thing lately. While my first blog was a raving achievement in mediocrity, this one is proving to be rather below even my standards of said mediocrity. Certainly I had hoped to achieve much more through blogging than I've done. I've had some good ideas that I didn't expand upon and other avenues that I just didn't care to carry out.

For a while I used Twitter to set myself weekly tasks to accomplish. It became apparent that I wasn't going to fulfill these tasks each week due to my Level 58 Procrastination ability. I made a bold statement that I was going to continue even if I failed weekly. A week later I quit. At the time I was in the habit of once a week habits, hoping that it would kick my ass into shape and lead at least a weekly 900 word article. I posted my "Links of the Week" which led to websites that had captured my interest in the past 7 or 12 days (depending on whether you use the Western calendar or the Delusional calendar). I also quit the links in short order.

I haven't been able to recapture the spirit I had with my original blog. Like half my posts are about how much my blog sucks! Which is a delightfully ironic sort of blog post. Yes. Quite delightful. I might even venture a snicker. There I snickered. I can't portray that here in a satisfactory manner, so you'll just have to take my word that I snickered.

Uhhhh, what was I saying? Oh yeah. Paraguay will NEVER win the World Cup. They'll take home some Copa Americas, sure. It's inevitable. Brazil and Argentina can't ALWAYS be untouchable. They make mistakes, ye wanks!

Errr. Oh yeah! I don't use this blog as an online journal. That's boring. Y'all bitches don't care what I have to say or what's happening in my life. It's not very exciting and involves whining about work and stories about cats. So I promise that I'll still find a format at some point to make this relevant to my most important reader, myself. I reeeeeally think that I'm just going to make a million blog posts with favorites lists. I like making lists and what better place to put them, eh? It's no live action Zombie Blog or in character travel diary of a man in another world, but it's entertaining enough to me. So that makes it entertaining to YOU or else.

Wii Fit Yo

I dont know who would do this if you can see it. Probably a midlife drone that is killing the integrity of gaming.

World ~ Atlus

Lately I've been getting back into a game I purchased a few months ago, Persona 4.

It's the fourth game in the Persona series and moreso it's part of of the overarching Megami Tensei series. I started playing it when it first came out, but I got busy with other stuf and it sort of fell to the side. Now I've decided to pick it up and finish my run through.

As I've started playing it I've realized how much I love this game. It's murder mystery story is alright if a little bit weak. It's the characters that is the games strength. Chie, Yosuke, Kanji, Rise, Nanako, and Yukiko... they're all so real. You really get a sense that these characters are real people. There are plenty of moments where you get to see slices of real life with believable conversations. It's unique for a video game. It's not constant epic speeches regardless of the situation. It's people, real people. These "S-Links" are a vital part of the game mechanics but it never feels forced. It feels natural.

In anticipation of inevitably finishing the game I was inspired to purchase two more games. Revitalizing my love of the Persona series with the fourth edition I was felt it necessary to pick up the third. Persona 3 FES is the definitive collection of that game featuring both the original game and the epilogue chapter.

It runs on basically the exact same system as Persona 4, so I look forward to jumping right into it after I finish my current game. I managed to pick it up for a decent price as well.

Along the same line as this would be my second recent purchase, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzonoha vs King Abaddon. Queer name right? The book was actually not bad... okay stole a line from Family Guy there. I've played very little of the rest of the Megami Tensei series, but from the little I've got into this game I'm liking it. The combat system is a really fun and active style. The devils in this game are equivilant to the personas in that series. It takes place in a sweet 1920s or 1930s style Japan. It seems like I'm going to enjoy it, maybe not as much as the Persona series overall. Plus I got it packed with this awesome Jack Frost as Raidou plush.

Yeah. Friggin awesome. He's currently the guardian of my room.
Atlus has made some great decisions when they release these games stateside. First, they give us the goods. Persona 4 came with a soundtrack CD that had some decent tunes. Second, they bring us the games. Persona series 1-4 (except the first part of 2), Digital Devil Saga, NOCTURNE, Devil Summoner and Survivor. Third, they do it for the FANS! They know who loves their games and they cater to that crowd. Fourth, quality over quantity. Hell quality over mainstream appeal.
So thanks Atlus. I am covered for months with these games I just picked up. They are also certain to be quality gaming sessions.
